Modern medical practice depends on the diagnostic clinical laboratories as much as on the physical signs and symptoms of disease in patient. The laboratory technologist is an important member of a team that cares for the patient; he/she is a health professional on whose competence and accountability depends the care and treatment of the patient. The Medical Laboratory Science Course aims to train students in the various diagnostic laboratory techniques that are now available.

The course will provide good/standard quality education to the trainees. The curriculum will include classroom teaching and supervised daily practical classes with the latest technology and machines.

Semester examinations will be conducted half yearly and the performance evaluated at the end of each Semester for both theory and practical examinations. Failed papers in Odd Semesters can be repeated during the exams of the subsequent Odd Semester. Similarly, failed papers in even Semesters exams can be repeated during the subsequent even Semester Exams.

DURATION OF COURSE                                                                       

The duration of the course will be 3½ years (7 Semesters) followed by 6 (six) months rotatory internship at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

The maximum duration of the course shall be N+2 where N is the normal duration of the programme. No student shall be allowed to continue beyond the maximum duration.

ELIGIBILITY:                                                                                            

Any person seeking admission to BMLS course must fulfill the following conditions:

1. The candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) from CBSE or State Education Board or any recognized Board with at least 50% marks for general candidates (UR) and 45% for SC/ST/OBC/NCL candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

REGISTRATION                                                                                       

A candidate admitted to the Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Science degree course in any one of the affiliated Institutions of the University shall register his/her name in the prescribed application form for registration duly filled along with the prescribed fee and a declaration in the format (as in annexure) to the Controller of Examination of the University through the affiliated Institutions within 60 (sixty) days from the cutoff date prescribed for Bachelors in Medical Laboratory Science course for admission.

MODE OF SELECTION                                                                          

1. Selection of candidates will be conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education as per the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) marks
2. There will be a reservation of 15% of the total seats for Backward quota as per the Government Notification No.HTE/RESERV/23- 1/2012(Pt)//Dated Kohima, the 30^th May 2016 for undergoing undergraduate course.
3. Candidates who have completed a two-year course programme in the concern subject from Boards recognised by Central/State Government(s)/State/Central University with at least 50% marks in aggerate for (UR) candidates and 45% marks in aggregate for SC/ST/OBC/NCL candidates shall be eligible for lateral entry to the 2^nd year (3^rd Semester) of BMLS.
4. 3% of the total seats per course are reserved for candidates belonging to the Indigenous Scheduled Tribes of Nagaland with locomotor disabilities of lower limbs between 40% to 70%. Candidates applying for selection under this reservation shall be required to produce Disability Certificate from the State Disability Assessment Board.

CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION                                                     

The Institution shall have the right of cancellation of admission and/or studentship of any student during the session if he/she is found guilty of any of the following:

1. Suppression of information
2. Supply of false information
3. General misconduct unbecoming of a student
4. Adoption of unfair means at the examination
5. General indiscipline

EXAMINATION, EVALUATION AND DECLARATION OF RESULTS

1. Conduct of Examinations: University shall conduct II, IV, and VI end- semester examinations and the remaining shall be conducted by the respective College (s). For all the end-semester examinations, question papers shall be prepared by the University.
2. Examination routine for end-semester examination shall be notified by the University which shall normally be of 3 hours duration.
3. Student assessment and progression: The performance of the student shall be evaluated on a 30:70 basis, e., 30 marks for internal assessment and 70 marks for end-semester examination.
4. Pass Marks: A student shall have to secure a minimum of 50% of the total aggregate (IA + end-semester exam).
5. Eligibility Criteria for End-Semester Examinations: A student shall be deemed qualified to appear at the end-semester examinations only if he/she secures minimum qualifying marks in the Internal Assessment Tests and maintains 80% attendance separately in each subject.
6. Admission to Next Semester: Advancement to the next semester shall be permitted only with a maximum of Two backlog papers from the preceding Further, entry to the next semester shall be regulated at the level of 4^th, 5^th, 6^th and 7^th semesters as explained under:
   • Admission to 4^th Semester shall be allowed only after clearing 1^st Semester backlog paper(s) during 3^rd Semester.
   • Admission to 5^th Semester shall be allowed only after clearing 2^nd Semester backlog paper(s) during 4^th

• Admission to 6^th Semester shall be allowed only after clearing 3^rd Semester backlog paper(s) during 5^th Semester.
• Admission to 7^th Semester shall be allowed only after clearing 4^th Semester backlog paper(s) during 6^th Semester.
• Backlog paper(s) of 4^th Semester needs to be cleared during 6^th Semester.
• Backlog paper(s) of 5^th, 6^th and 7^th Semesters need to be cleared during subsequent examinations for these semesters within 10 semesters with a maximum of only one chance.

CURRICULUM:                                                                                         

The curriculum and the syllabi for the course shall be as prescribed by the University from time to time.

SUBMISSION OF LOG BOOKS:                                                           

At the time of practical examination, each candidate shall submit to the examiners his / her Log books duly certified by the Head of the Department as a bonafide record of the work done by the candidate.

The practical record shall be evaluated by the concerned Head of the Department (Internal Evaluator) and the practical record marks shall be submitted to the University 15 days prior to the commencement of the theory Examinations.

In respect of failed candidates, the marks awarded for record at previous           examination           will    be    carried                  over                 for     the  subsequent examination. The candidates shall have the option to improve his performance by submission of fresh records.

REVALUATION / SCRUTINY:                                                              

• There is no provision for candidate to request for revaluation of the answer papers of failed candidates in any examination. However, the failed candidates can apply for scrutiny

FEES PAYABLE BY THE STUDENTS                                                    

The selected candidate is to pay the following charges for the course mentioned for admission in Para Medical Training Institute, Kohima.

Students shall be allowed to continue after break in studies provided the maximum duration as given in Clause – 2 (ii) is not exceeded.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS                    

The following rules and regulations are to be strictly adhered to by all students at the Institute. Misconduct in any form may result in strict disciplinary action, including expulsion.

Dress Code

• Students should dress decently during classes/duty and maintain personal cleanliness and neatness.
• Institute Blazer and T-Shirt is to be worn on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.
• The students are to wear a blue apron over their regular outfit during practical classes/duty.

Departmental Postings

• During the compulsory rotatory Internship period, the students are expected to perform all work assigned to them by the supervisor of the section and follow the rules and regulations of their respective departments. In particular, they are to adhere to the timings of their respective departments.
• The students are not allowed to leave their assigned areas of duty without prior permission from the Head of the Department.
• Following the usual hospital working schedules the students may be assigned evening/night shift duties.
• Students are not authorized to communicate any information or deliver any document, which forms a part of a patient’s record to anyone other than their supervisors.
• Attendance record will be kept on a day-to-day basis by the concerned departments.
• In addition, students are also required to display their Identity Cards while on duty.

Miscellaneous

• Students are expected to be familiar with and observe universal precautions against communicable diseases.
• Students are not allowed to take up or continue any other academic courses or training during their training period in this Institute.
